Apollo Lunar Surface
Experiment Package (ALSEP)
Lunar Atmospheric Compostion
Experiment (LACE)
.
.
LACE deployed at Apollo 17 ALSEP site. The
top cover remained closed until after the crew left the moon and a nearby
LSP explosives package was fired, to prevent
contamination from lunar dust.
Apollo Experiment Number: S 205
Apollo Missions: 17
Wt: 9.1 kg
Dim: 33.7 X 16.5 X 31.8 cm
This experiment was similar to the Cold
Cathode Ion Gauge flown on Apollos 12 & 14, except, unlike the
CCIG which measured the overall amount of the lunar atmosphere, this instrument
also detected the compositional elements of it.
