Lunar Extravehicular Visor Assembly (LEVA). This unit was snapped in place over the clear bubble helmet of the intravehicular suit, which provided a pressure vessel for the crewman. The hard shell over the helmet was implemented after it was discovered that micrometeorites were penetrating the helmet on previous missions. The sun visor is the famous gold mirror visor seen in all the Apollo lunar surface photographs. It also featured visors that could be pulled down on each side and one in the center that had a fold up viewport door which served like a hat visor to provide shading for the crewman's eyes.
