.    Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum photo showing LK spacecraft in foreground and, behind and to the right, a mockup of the planned follow on advanced LK-GB spacecraft (the white, double dome-shaped object).  Designated L-3M, this program would have utilized a 24 metric ton lander called GB-2 which could have delivered a multi-man crew to the lunar surface for stays as long as 2 weeks, depending on crew size.     The L3-M program was envisioned for launch around the late 70's - early 80's.  It was an ambitious project which (had it ever been developed) would have overshadowed the Apollo program in it's efforts to begin true lunar exploration and development of colonization of the moon.
